Vuillemez Pere et Fils

In the 1980s, Claude and Patricia Vuillemez successfully developed a family watchmaking business. Burgundian wines accompanied them throughout their lives. One day, their love for Burgundy led them to purchase an old house in the village of Chardonnay in the Mâconnais in 1989. In 2007, a winemaker from this commune, who had no heirs, transferred one hectare of his vineyards to Claude. Thus, the couple's long-held dream—"to create Chardonnay from the village of Chardonnay"—was realized. A few years later, the Vuillemez family succeeded in acquiring an additional 9 hectares of vines, including 4 hectares of very old vines that had lain neglected for 60 years. In 2018, a new generation of the family joined the estate: Claude and Patricia's son, Paul, and their nephew, Valentin. The study of terroir and the pursuit of expressing it in their wines are the guiding principles of Vuillemez Père et Fils. To this end, since 2019, all their vineyards have been converted to organic farming methods, and part of the old vines were replanted between 2014 and 2021. The estate also owns plots where synthetic fertilizers have never been used. Sustainable development and preserving the natural balance and health of the soil are priorities in the vineyard work at Vuillemez Père et Fils. Christian Wess from Switzerland, a recognized expert in biodynamics, is consulted on these aspects.
