Palari

The Palari winery, owned by Salvatore Geraci, is located in Santo Stefano di Messina and is famous for its Faro DOC wine. The hills overlooking the Strait of Messina have long produced excellent wines: archaeological finds prove that winemaking in the Messina area flourished as early as the 14th century BC. This led to an economic boom that lasted for centuries. Thanks to modern technology, the Palari winery has succeeded in developing and producing excellent noble wine. The vineyards are located in the Palari wine area of San Stefano Briga in Messina and are planted with local grape varieties whose names are as ancient as the charm they evoke: Nerello, Nocera, Cappuccio, Tignolino, Cor'e Palumba, Acitana, Galatena and others. The area is blessed with a unique microclimate thanks to the dramatic difference in altitude – 455 meters above sea level within a radius of 13 kilometers. The grapes, growing on moderately steep slopes, are hand-picked and placed in small baskets. The soft pressing of the grapes, fermentation at controlled temperatures, aging in French oak barrels and final aging in temperature controlled cellars are all carefully managed under the watchful eye of the great winemaker Donato Lanati.
