Oleg Repin

«Oleg Repin» wines represent a personal project that has become one of the prominent symbols of modern Russian winemaking. With deep knowledge of ampelography and Crimean terroirs, as well as a passionate approach to every vintage, Oleg signs his name under each wine he produces. Oleg Repin is a professional enologist with two specialized degrees and extensive experience working in Crimean wineries. He maintains full control over every aspect of his work — from studying terroir characteristics to designing and often implementing equipment-related tasks. In 2011, Oleg established his 2-hectare vineyard on the watershed between the Kacha and Belbek rivers. The plantings are located approximately 150 meters above sea level, about seven kilometers from the coast. This vineyard is named «Listva» — after one of the plots of the Sofya Perovskaya estate, from which Oleg purchased the land. Two varieties were carefully selected for planting — Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, each occupying one hectare. Oleg believes that «a vineyard is planted once in a lifetime», so the choice of varieties was made after thorough study of the terroir, regional history, and personal experience. The first harvests from the young vines have already confirmed the wisdom of this decision: the varieties proved successful not only for Cabernet Sauvignon, which is historically prevalent in Sevastopol, but also for Syrah — a variety planted in the region for the first time, whose characteristics resemble those of the Southern Rhône. Additionally, Oleg sources Aligoté, Pinot Noir, and Riesling grapes from the same region. The wines are bottled at the «Satera» winery, where he serves as chief enologist. In spring 2017, the design phase was completed, and construction began on a new winery along the Belbek River. (Material prepared with the use of Artur Sarkisyan’s author’s guide.)
