Jean-Claude Ramonet

The history of Domaine Ramonet began in the 1920s when Pierre Ramonet moved to Chassagne-Montrachet. After the family mill went bankrupt during World War I, he and his father turned to viticulture. The period of economic crisis and Prohibition in the USA allowed Pierre to gradually acquire plots around Chassagne-Montrachet. His first significant acquisition was the prestigious Premier Cru Ruchottes in 1934 — these wines brought him fame. A turning point was the meeting with Raymond Baudouin and Frank Skoonmaker, thanks to which Ramonet established supplies to the USA. Pierre’s lifelong dream was to purchase a plot in the renowned Grand Cru Le Montrachet, which he realized at the age of 72 by buying 0.25 hectares with his life savings. Today, the domain is managed by Jean-Claude Ramonet and his daughters Marie-France and Clarisse. They own 17 hectares of vineyards, including plots with old vines. Production is characterized by strict yield control, fermentation in stainless steel tanks with local yeasts, and aging (12–15 months in oak barrels, with 10–15% new barrels for regional wines and 30% for Grand Cru). Ramonet’s wines are distinguished by their complexity, depth, and elegance, featuring a characteristic creamy texture and refined mineral aftertaste.
