Jacques Selosse

The history of Domaine Jacques Selosse began in 1947, when Jacques and Gisèle Selosse founded a winery on a modest plot of land in Avize, combining viticulture with other agricultural activities. By the early 1970s, production reached 7,000 bottles per year on a total vineyard area of 4.5 hectares. The majority of the harvest (80%) was sold as grapes. In 1974, management of the domain passed to their son Anselme, who set an ambitious goal — to reinterpret and develop the traditions of Champagne. Thanks to his 15 years of efforts, the entire harvest began to be processed in the winery and released under the Domaine Jacques Selosse label. Since 2012, Anselme has been working alongside his son Guillaume, a dedicated winemaker who is developing existing production methods, including in the field of millésime creation. Today, the estate cultivates 8.5 hectares of vineyards in Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims. As Anselme notes, «this land belongs not to me, but to two families living in these vineyards: the Chardonnay family (70,000 vines) and the Pinot Noir family (9,500 vines)». For 45 years, Anselme Selosse has been developing his own approach to working with vineyards, perceiving them as a forest — an ideal and self-sufficient ecosystem. That is why the estate’s wines reflect the richness of the terroir and the vine’s ability to live, breathe, and ripen, embodying the unique character of their place of origin.
