Walcher
In 1966, Alphonse Walcher established his own distillery on the grounds of Turmbachhof farm, which has been in the Walcher family’s possession for nine generations. The historic Turmbachhof building — a residential tower dating back to the 12th century — gave its name to the nearby village of Turmbach. During his studies at the prestigious St. Michael’s wine school, Alphonse discovered his passion for producing exclusive alcoholic beverages. Using the water bath method, he began distilling spirits from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes grown in the Alto Adige region. This marked the beginning of commercial production of grappa, fruit brandy, herbal bitters, and other premium spirits under the Walcher brand. Today, Alphonse’s sons — Theodor and Matthias — continue their father’s legacy, sharing his genuine dedication and passion for production. Alphonse Walcher, while remaining the distillery’s leader and a founding member of the South Tyrol Grappa Producers Association, actively promotes the development of beverage culture in the region. The Walcher brothers manage production while adhering to principles of environmental sustainability. Their primary goal is to provide consumers with the opportunity to enjoy superb natural products of the highest quality, representing the best of South Tyrol’s alcoholic beverages, and to derive genuine pleasure from their consumption.
