Vouette & Sorbée

Bertrand Gautreau is a winemaker who grew up in a family of farmers in Champagne. From an early age, he assisted his father in harvesting from small family vineyards and producing still red wine with 10% ABV, which the family enjoyed during meals. The remaining must was sold to a local cooperative for champagne production. In 1993, after completing his education, Bertrand returned home and took over his father’s vineyards Vouette and Sorbée. These plots became the foundation of the future domain, whose name is now recognized by many wine connoisseurs. During the initial years, the winemaker continued supplying grapes to the cooperative but already then abandoned chemical fertilizers. The realization of the environmental impact of chemicals, along with exposure to biodynamic wines during trips to Alsace, Burgundy, and the Loire Valley in 1996–1997, led to a complete transition to organic methods. In 1998, the vineyards received biodynamic certification. After the cooperative refused to accept the harvest in 2001, Bertrand decided to start his own champagne production, adhering to the principles of organic farming, biodynamics, and vintage-specific approach. Today, the estate spans 5 hectares. All wines are aged on lees and released without dosage in the Brut Nature style. The flagship of the production is Cuvée Fidèle — an embodiment of loyalty to the winemaker’s principles. This is not just a basic wine but a true calling card of the estate. Each of these wines is a result of creative approach and dedication to tradition, making Vouette et Sorbée a unique representative of modern champagne winemaking.
