Weingut Carl Loewen
For the winemakers of this estate, light, characterful Riesling is the ideal of Mosel wine. Their grapes grow on top‑class terroirs and on vines of biblical age. In the cellar, they strive to let these natural treasures unfold with minimal intervention. Their philosophy is rooted in traditional winemaking, which they interpret in a contemporary way.
The tradition of their estate dates back to 1803. During the secularisation under Napoleon, their ancestors acquired vineyards in the Maximiner Klosterlay. These vineyards remain the foundation of their winery to this day. They are especially proud of one unique site: in 1896, their parcel in the Maximin Herrenberg was planted with ungrafted vines. It is one of the oldest Riesling vineyards in the world. This vineyard has been preserved in its original form and serves as the basis for their finest wines.
