Tenuta San Guido
The main pride of the winery is the famous Sassicaia wine, which became a symbol of the «super-Tuscan» movement. Thanks to this wine, the estate received its own subregional classification — Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC. The success story began in the first half of the 20th century when Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, admired by Bordeaux wines, decided to experiment with French grape varieties in the local soils. A special mixture of pebbles, gravel, and clay proved to be ideal for growing Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Today, the estate produces three lines of premium wines: Sassicaia Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC, Guidalberto IGT, Le Difese Toscana IGT.The estate’s territory is also famous for the renowned Cypress Avenue, created by Guidalberto della Gerardesca — an ancestor of the Marquises della Rocchetta. This landmark is considered a national treasure of Italy. In addition to wines, the estate produces traditional extra virgin olive oil and, in collaboration with a renowned grappa producer, releases a premium distillate — Grappa di Sassicaia.
