Somlói Vándor
Tamás Kis was born in 1984 in Hungary, far from winemaking traditions—his family had no background in viticulture. However, his love for wine came through his father, who worked in hospitality and took young Tamás to wine regions like Tokaj, Villány, and Eger from an early age. The old wineries and legendary blends such as "Bikavér" (Bull’s Blood) left a lasting impression on him.Tamás graduated from Corvinus University in Budapest with a degree in Food Engineering (winemaking specialization). He interned under Lőrincz Gyuri, one of the pioneers of Hungarian organic winemaking, and later spent four years working in Eger, where he deepened his knowledge of red wines, including the famous Bikavér.In 2014, Tamás moved to Somló—a tiny volcanic region with basalt soils, where only white grape varieties are grown. There, he purchased 2.5 hectares of vineyards (and leased additional plots) and founded his winery, "Somlói Vándor" ("The Wanderer of Somló")—a name reflecting his "journeys" across Hungary in search of the perfect terroir.Tamás is part of a new wave of Hungarian winemakers reviving forgotten regions. His wines represent a "dialogue" between ancient volcanoes and modern minimalist philosophy.
