Château La Lagune

The history of La Lagune estate dates back to the 17th century, when it was known as Grand La Lagune. The Seguineau family established the first vineyards and built the château here. As early as 1724, the estate’s wines had gained well-deserved popularity. A significant contribution to the development of the château was made by Jufre Piston, who acquired the estate in 1819. Under his ownership, the quality of the wines improved substantially, earning the prestigious troisieme cru status in the 1855 classification. In 1886, the estate passed to Monsieur Ceuz, a talented winemaker whose achievements were confirmed by numerous awards won by La Lagune during that period. After the owner’s death, a period of decline began: the vineyard area shrank to just a few hectares, and by 1958 the outbuildings were nearly destroyed. The revival of the château is associated with Georges Brunet, who carried out a large-scale restoration of the castle, reestablished the vineyards, and built a modern winery, restoring the estate’s former glory. Currently, the estate is owned by the Ayala Champagne House, which has continued the policy of renewal. The company completed restoration work, modernized production, and reacquired plots that historically belonged to the château.
