Rocca di Fassinello
Rocca di Frassinello is a unique winemaking project in Maremma, combining tradition and innovation. The winery building, created by the renowned architect Renzo Piano, stands out on the hill with its red-brick facade and rectangular tower, symbolizing the harmony between nature and progress. This architectural gem features a wine cellar for 2,500 barrels, designed in the shape of an ancient Roman arena, and a spacious terrace offering panoramic views of the vineyards. The vineyards are located on Terminuzzo hill, 15 km from the sea, where the special climate and stony soils, dominated by gravel and limestone, create ideal conditions for growing grapes. This is the first Italian-French project involving Castellare di Castellina (Italy) and Baron Eric de Rothschild (France). 50% of the vineyards are dedicated to Sangiovese, while the remaining 40% are occupied by Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Syrah. The flagship product is the super-Tuscan wine Baffonero, made from Merlot, which has repeatedly outperformed the renowned Masseto in blind tastings. The wine received a high rating from Robert Parker — 94 points for the 2009 vintage.
