Marques de Tomares
The history of Familia Montaña winery dates back to 1910, when Don Roman Montaña founded the estate in Fuentemayor, located in the Rioja Alta region. Remarkably, the first grapevine he planted back in 1886 has survived to this day and continues to thrive on the estate. The winery’s unique heritage includes valuable old vineyards planted immediately after the phylloxera epidemic. Of particular significance is the substantial area dedicated to the Graciano grape variety. The century-old winemaking history initiated by Don Roman continues to this day. Modern leadership is in the hands of the founder’s grandson, Oscar Montaña, who has enlisted the expertise of the distinguished Spanish oenologist Isaac Fernández Montaña for creating unique premium wines. It is ironic that, despite sharing the same surname, they are not related, which adds a special depth and symbolism to the Familia Montaña project. The continuity of generations and the union of talents from different winemaking masters create a unique style of wines that truly reflect the terroir of Rioja and the centuries-old winemaking traditions of the Montaña family.
