Codorniu

The history of Codorniu dates back to the distant year of 1551, as confirmed by documented evidence of ownership of winemaking equipment. A significant milestone was the marriage of Anna Codorniu and Miguel de Raventós in 1659, which marked the beginning of the union of centuries-old traditions of two influential winemaking dynasties in Spain. Codorniu holds a special place among producers of fine sparkling wines, becoming a pioneer in applying the classic method of champagne production (méthode champenoise) in Spain, known as Cava. The year 1872 marked the creation of the first wine produced using this technology, which by 1888 had already gained international recognition, winning numerous gold awards. Since 1897, by order of Queen Maria Cristina, the company became an official supplier to the Royal Court of Spain. Today, Codorniu is a globally recognized brand whose wines have conquered more than a hundred countries around the world. Of particular value is the fact that in 1976, the company’s cellars in San Sadurní d’Anoia were granted the status of a National Monument of historical and artistic significance.
