Gonzalez Byass

González Byass was founded in 1835 by Manuel María González Ángel in the Jerez region of Spain. At the age of 23, he dedicated himself to producing and selling sherry wines and spirits. In 1844, the first casks of Tío Pepe sherry were exported to London. The name "Tío Pepe" honors the founder's uncle, José Ángel. Later, in 1855, British distributor Robert Black Bías became a partner to strengthen business ties with the United Kingdom, which was then the main market for sherry wines. The commercial alliance between the Bías and González families lasted until 1988, when the Bías family exited the business, and the winery was passed down to direct descendants of Manuel María González.
