In autumn 2016, Russia's winemaking map welcomed "Galitsky & Galitsky" – a joint project by Sergey Galitsky and Sergey Galitsky Jr., with chief winemaker Alexey Tolstoy at the helm. Today, this passionate team creates premium terroir-driven wines in one of Russia's coolest wine regions, working in harmony with nature rather than conquering it. Chief winemaker Alexey Tolstoy:"Our vineyards are significantly higher than surrounding terroirs, and our slopes are some of the coolest in Russia. Here, we can craft truly profound mineral-driven whites and elegant red wines." The vineyards are situated 300 meters above sea level in the protected Krasnaya Gorka (Red Hill) area, making them among the coldest terroirs in Russia. Vineyards are surrounded by forests that shield the vines from cold northwestern winds. Proximity to the Black Sea moderates temperatures and prevents frost damage. The soils are rocky, with high limestone and marl content, contributing to the wines' distinct minerality. The vineyards are planted on hills that have carried their names since the 19th century: Skumpiika, Vasyurin Bugor, Lysaya Gora (Bald Mountain), Dzhavaga. These lands were once home to Cossack settlements guarding the southern borders of the Russian Empire.
