Angelo Gaja is one of Italy’s most renowned winemakers, the fourth generation of a renowned winemaking dynasty. Born and raised in a family of Spanish descent who moved to Piedmont in the 17th century, his ancestors founded a small winery in Barbaresco, a region that was then little known.In 1998, Decanter named Angelo Gaja its Person of the Year.His wines are renowned for their finesse and elegance, earning him a reputation as a winemaker who can make any grape variety successful.Angelo and his team actively implement environmentally friendly farming practices, including the use of cover crops, organic fertilisers and gentle pest control to maintain biodiversity in the vineyards.Today, the fifth generation of the Gaja family continues the tradition established by Angelo, and oenologist Guido Rivella, who has been with the company for half a century, continues to act as a consultant.
