Frederic Esmonin
Frederic Esmonin is a Burgundian winemaker who joined his father, André, at the family estate in the late 1980s. It was at his insistence that they began bottling their own wines. Previously, for many years, André and Frederic’s grandfather sold grapes and wine to some of Burgundy’s most respected producers and négociants, such as Louis Jadot, Drouhin, and Leroy. Soon after, father and son established a small winery with just 4 hectares of vineyards, which quickly became a notable player in the market. Their vines are very old—many are 40 to 50 years old—and their production volume is very limited: about a dozen different wines in small quantities.Frederic Esmonin practices organic cultivation of his vineyards. His wines are characterized by purity, concentration, and a modern style; a distinctive feature is their drinkability when young. The wines are aged in barrels of varying ages and toast levels, then blended to achieve harmony and complexity. Many critics note that it is precisely this balance and depth that make these wines truly outstanding.
