Fattoria La Magia

The winery's history began in 1979, when the Schwarz family, originally from the Italian province of South Tyrol (Alto Adige), acquired the estate. At that time, Harald Schwarz bought the land, and his father (the current owner's grandfather), Herbert Schwarz, provided financial support for the purchase. Today, the estate is run by the founder's son, Fabian Schwarz. He joined the winery in 2005, breathing new life into the production by fully converting it to organic practices and significantly raising the quality bar. He studied at the prestigious Instituto Agrario San Michele all'Adige. Fabian calls himself a "citizen of the world" but proudly considers Montalcino his home. Although due to its similarity to the Italian word for "magic" (magìa) the name is often pronounced with the stress on the last syllable, the correct pronunciation is La Màgia (with the stress on the first "a"). It derives from the word "magione" (an old Tuscan term for a house or residence), as a guesthouse for travellers on the Via Francigena once stood here.
