Giacomo Fenocchio
Fenocchio are true Barolo grower‑producers, a dynasty of hereditary winegrowers who have been cultivating grapes in Monforte d’Alba since 1864. For nearly a hundred years, they were forced to sell the fruits of their labor: almost the entire Nebbiolo harvest went to the cellars of large houses that produced Barolo under their own names. The time for change came in the 1960s, when small estates began to refocus on producing their own wines, and at the same time Giacomo Fenocchio bottled his first vintages. Thirty years later, Barolo was buzzing. The success of these wines on international markets not only increased the number of producers but also gave rise to an ideological split. The younger generation sought to consolidate success and produce more wines that could be enjoyed young, enthusiastically planting international varieties. However, Claudio Fenocchio, who took over the estate in 1989, made his choice in favour of age‑old traditions. Fenocchio’s Barolo was and remains a model of impeccably executed wine classicism.
