Domaine Le Roc des Anges
Domaine Le Roc des Anges is an iconic winery located in the heart of the Roussillon region (Southern France). Despite its youth (founded in 2001), it quickly gained critical acclaim and status as one of the most prominent representatives of the "new wave" of this region.
The domaine was founded by the couple Marjorie Gallet and Stéphane Gallet. Their story is one of a shared love for the land: Stéphane hails from Normandy, while Marjorie comes from Côte-Rôtie (Northern Rhône). They met at the agronomy school in Montpellier. Before founding their own estate, Marjorie interned at the legendary Domaine Gauby, while Stéphane worked with Yves Cuilleron and at Mas Amiel.
In 2001, they acquired their first 10 hectares of vineyards in the commune of Montner. The domaine's name comes from a quartz vein running through one of their first vineyards, where old Carignan vines grow. Over the following years, they steadily expanded their holdings, and today the vineyard area totals approximately 25 hectares. Since 2008, the couple has devoted themselves entirely to managing the domaine, and since 2010 their vineyards have held biodynamic certification.
The estate is located in the northernmost part of Roussillon, in the village of Latour-de-France, on the border with Catalonia. This is one of the hottest and driest regions of France, where the legendary Tramontane wind blows. However, the vineyards of "Le Roc des Anges" are situated on northern slopes, which protects them from overheating and allows them to retain precious freshness.
