Domaine de la Vougeraie – an atypical estate by Burgundy standards. A kaleidoscope of 67 vineyard plots spanning 48 hectares across the slopes of Côte d'Or, biodynamic practices based on lunar cycles, cutting-edge modern equipment, and exceptional wine quality have all cemented this domaine's name among Burgundy's most renowned producers. The young Burgundian estate Domaine de la Vougeraie was founded by the charismatic Jean-Charles Boisset and his sister Nathalie. Over two decades, beginning with the purchase of Les Evocelles in Gevrey-Chambertin in 1964, the family acquired plot after plot of vineyards across the Côte d'Or. Yet the domaine's first vintage only appeared in 1999. Today, the estate owns 67 plots totaling around 48 hectares—one-third in Côte de Beaune, most in Côte de Nuits, including the legendary monopole Premier Cru ""Le Clos Blanc de Vougeot"", the jewel in its crown. This plot is 95% planted with Chardonnay, surrounded by Pinot Noir vineyards—earning it the nickname ""A Diamond Among Rubies"" in Vougeot. From its inception, Jean-Charles Boisset has practiced organic and biodynamic viticulture, being a staunch advocate of biodynamics. He believes only living soils can provide vines with the nutrients needed to produce high-quality wines. The domaine treats its vines with herbal preparations, brewed from plants grown on-site, following the lunar calendar. Though the estate owns a relatively large vineyard area (by Burgundian standards), it should not be mistaken for a négociant. All vineyards are estate-owned, each cuvée meticulously crafted and selected, with most releases limited to just 3,000-5,000 bottles—a modest output even for Burgundy. Uncompromising attention to detail—in both vineyard and cellar—is the secret behind Domaine de la Vougeraie's success. Their vibrant, pure, and expressive wines have won the hearts of enthusiasts worldwide.
