Comando G

Comando G is a small yet ambitious winery founded in 2008 by two friends, Fernando García and Daniel Jiménez-Landi, in the picturesque mountainous region of Sierra de Gredos, located 75 kilometers from Madrid. The winery’s name pays homage to a popular Spanish animated series from the 1980s. Just as the animated series’ heroes fought against space monsters, the founders of Comando G decided to become «superheroes» in the world of winemaking — they took on the challenge of saving ancient vineyards of Spain while implementing sustainable ecological farming principles. Sierra de Gredos is a unique region spanning three valleys (Alto Alberche, Alberche, and Tiétar) and three regions (Castilla y León, Madrid, and Castilla-La Mancha). While the area around Madrid has traditionally been known for simple, affordable wines, this region preserves a rich winemaking heritage. It was here, at an altitude of 1000 meters, on steep granite slopes, that Daniel and Fernando discovered abandoned Garnacha vineyards. Using biodynamic and organic farming methods, they revived the ancient vines to new life. This marked the birth of a new star in Spanish winemaking, continuing the traditions of Priorat pioneers. In the name Comando G, the letter G symbolizes three key elements: Garnacha, Gredos, and Granite. Their wines are comparable in quality to the finest examples of Burgundian Pinot Noir and Rhône Syrah, with some vintages receiving the highest rating — 100 points.
