Caymus Vineyards
Caymus Vineyards was founded in 1971 by the Rutherford family, Charles and Lorna Bell Gloss Wagner. In 1972, the winemakers produced their first vintage, and since then, their commitment to making exceptional wines has not changed. The estate spans 350 acres in Napa Valley, with an annual production of 65,000 bottles. The name of the estate is borrowed from previous owners, Mexicans who were the owners of "Rancho Caymus." In 1984, Chuck Wagner, the eldest son of the founders, took over the sole management of Caymus. The wines began to receive prestigious titles and awards. In 1989, the wine Special Selection 1984 won "Wine of the Year" from Wine Spectator, surpassing 6,000 other samples. In 1994, the Special Selection 1990 won the same title again. In 2001, Chuck Wagner and his father were inducted into the Wine Spectator Hall of Fame. The year 2006 marked a milestone for the Wagner family, celebrating 100 years of farming in the valley. Chuck Wagner, who received a nomination in 2007 for achievements and contributions to the development of winemaking—"Merits in Winemaking"—continues to work at Caymus Vineyards, creating magnificent wines. Today, all four of their children work alongside the founders at the winery.
