Bodegas Muga
Bodegas Muga was founded in 1932 by Isaac Muga, a wine-making heir from Rioja. He obtained his wine-making license back in 1926 and six years later purchased a small winery in Rioja, thus starting his family business. Initially, the limited size of the cellar allowed only young wines to be produced. However, in the early 1960s, the situation changed when Muga expanded his production by purchasing an ancient building, which today remains part of the extensive winery. A significant turning point in the company’s history came in the late 1980s when Bodegas Muga began focusing on the international market. This led to the production of richer, more powerful wines that retained their signature elegance and complexity. The breakthrough came with the release of the 1991 Torre Muga wine, which gained recognition both in Spain and internationally. This success was consolidated in 1994 with the release of an even more complex wine. In 1998, the company expanded its holdings by acquiring ancient vineyards, raising product quality to a new level. Bodegas Muga implemented a strict grape selection system, which reduced production volumes but significantly increased quality. In 1999, the company fully transitioned to using small barrels for fermentation, allowing for more careful processing of selected grapes. Today, Bodegas Muga successfully combines centuries-old winemaking traditions with modern production technologies, creating outstanding wines that are highly valued worldwide.
