Bertinga

Bertinga is an emerging star in Tuscan winemaking, which, despite its youth, has already gained expert recognition. The winery is located in Gaiole — an elite commune in the Chianti Classico region, renowned for its exceptional terroirs. The estate’s vineyards are spread across three sites: Vertine, Adine, and Bertinga. Here, only two grape varieties — Sangiovese and Merlot — are cultivated, with special attention paid to the unique characteristics of each microterroir using the Burgundian method. The winemaking process follows the Bordeaux concept, which involves producing both «first» and «second» wines. The estate’s success is confirmed by high ratings: the 2016 vintage received scores ranging from 92 to 97 points from James Suckling. Particularly noteworthy is the Merlot from the Volta di Bertinga vineyard, which was named the best Merlot in Italy in 2021 by the prestigious Gambero Rosso guide. The winemaking is overseen by renowned oenologist Stéphane Derenoncourt. His professional portfolio is impressive: in addition to his work at Bertinga, he manages 60 prestigious châteaux in Bordeaux and participates in various wine projects around the world.
