Barros (Sogevinus)
In 1913, Manuel de Almeida founded a small winery called Almeida & Ca. in the Douro Valley. Soon after, Manuel Moreira de Barros joined him, playing a key role in the company's development. Interestingly, he started working as an assistant at Almeida & Ca. at the age of 13, became a manager at 17, and by 21, he was a partner of Manuel de Almeida and married his sister. As a result, the company was named Barros, Almeida & Ca., and later simply Barros. The company established a strong reputation in the port wine market by focusing on craftsmanship and quality, which helped it become a prestigious and respected brand.
