Azienda Vitivinicola Tiberio
The winery is located in Abruzzo, in the municipality of Cugnoli (Province of Pescara), on hilly terrain at 350 meters above sea level, near the Majella National Park and 30 km from the Adriatic Sea.In the late 1990s, Riccardo Tiberio (then export manager for a major local winery) discovered old vines of Trebbiano Abruzzese—a rare indigenous variety considered nearly extinct. With remarkable foresight, he: acquired the vineyard site, focused on native varieties (Trebbiano Abruzzese, Montepulciano, Pecorino), but also experimented with international grape varieties. In 2004, the first wines under their own label were released, immediately impressing critics: Whites: Distinguished by profound minerality, reds: Showcased fresh, elegant fruit. In 2008, management passed to Riccardo’s children: Antonio (agronomist) took over vineyard operations, Cristiana (a chemist trained in Champagne, Burgundy, and the Mosel) became winemaker. They removed international varieties, focusing exclusively on native grapes, switched to massal selection (propagating the best old vines), resulting in more complex and profound wines compared to clonal plantings.Today, Tiberio wines rival the finest whites of Burgundy, and their Trebbiano Abruzzese has become a regional benchmark.
